Droughts, floods and pollution.
Those are the types of problems the new SFU Pacific Water Research Centre hopes to look into when it opens this week.
Dean of the Faculty of Environment at SFU – Ingrid Stefanovic – says she hopes this centre will help educate people about a growing number of water concerns.
“All cities are dealing with challenges around water infrastructure renewal and Vancouver is certainly no exception. In Canada as well, we have particular issues relating to Aboriginal communities. And they have particular challenges around water issues.”
“We’re trying to provide this nexus where people can gather, share their research initiatives and also work a little bit more closely and cohesively with community groups on issues of water.”
The Centre will announce their opening on Thursday, June 25th at the Canadian Water Summit.
