As the City of Vancouver gets set to close the last two hookah lounges in town, other vapour lounges around the city say they are not worried about being shut down.
In four weeks The Ahwaz Hookah House and Persian Tea House will be forced to close after violating a city health bylaw banning indoor smoking.
Megan McRae works at Cannabis Culture on West Hastings and serves in their indoor vapour lounge.
She says no one from the city has talked to them about future closures or fines.
“They’re saying all this is okay, and all this is medically okay, and then they’re shutting down all these other things…but they’re giving dispensaries a $30,000 license. So you’re saying it’s okay one way but you’re completely demonizing it and saying it’s not okay another way.”
McRae says for now they will focus on continued cannabis education.
“We will be here, no one has talked to us, we are just going to keep on our activism and keep educating people.”
The City of Vancouver has yet to respond.
