A City of Vancouver with no cars on the road. That’s what the organizers of Car Free Day are hoping to promote this weekend.
Roads around the city will be shut down and replaced with bands and artists.
Board Chair of the Vancouver Car Free Society, Matthew Carrico, says the festival is about creating a community around environmental sustainability.
“This is an important example of what a neighbourhood can look like and the sort of connections that can be made if you remove the vehicles from the equation.”
Carrico says he believes a future where people rely on walking and public transit for all transportation is a possibility in the city.
“This year seems to be a real turning point as far as the acceptance of these festivals as legitimate events that benefit local communities and have good environmental aim”
Roads around the city will be shut all weekend for the event.
