The group trying to get enough signatures to trigger a recall of Liberal MLA Richard Lee have failed to meet their target.
However Jennifer Heighton who speaks for the BC Citizen’s Recall group won’t say how many signatures they did get.
“We’re diappointed that we were not able to get to the number of signatures that were required. But then the required number of signatures is so high that really realistically it’s really, really difficult to get there.”
They needed 16-thousand-494 people to sign the petition within a 60 day period.
She says the bar is set too high.
“16,500 signatures in 60 days? That is a lot of signatures. And if the MLA can not get it himself in an election period then we feel 40 percent is too high a target for almost anyone to get.”
Heighton says the campaign was launched because some voters in the Burnaby North riding feel Lee, who has held the seat since 2001, isn’t listening to constituents.
