A visual effects editor on the mega-hit “Game of Thrones”, who also had ties to Vancouver, was the woman mauled to death by a lion in South Africa.
She’s been identified as 29-year-old Katherine Chappell.
NBC News reports she was in Johannesburg raising money for anti-poaching organizations.
She was taking pictures from a car when a lion jumped in through the open window.
She’d lived in Vancouver for two years and also worked on the movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Godzilla.
One of her last posts on Instagram shows her standing in front of the entrance of the Vancouver Airport with a backpack and a smile, with the comment “So long Canada! Next stop London!”
According to CBS News, Chapell was a native to New York. Her family released a statement on Facebook:
“Katie was a brilliant, kind, adventurous and high-spirited woman. Her energy and passion could not be contained by mere continents or oceans.”
