Despite every community in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley beating the national guidelines for physical activity, a new survey finds that as many as one in four of us are obese.
The report, conducted by Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health, looked at the response from about 33,000 people, ages 18 to 40, in 40 different communities.
Specific to Vancouver, the survey suggests 77 per cent of people report having a family doctor, which is the lowest rate in the survey and is below the B.C. and Canadian averages.
Dr. Patricia Daly with VCH says survey results can go help with city planning.
“We’re going to be able to provide (the City of Vancouver) with much more meaningful data, so when they do their neighbourhood plans, they can identify those neighbourhoods where there might be health concerns and help address those.”
