Not one but two game sevens are in our midst as the NHL Conference Finals are truly living up to our high expectations.
There is not a whole lot to choose between these four remaining clubs but each of them has a strength that the other would die for.
The Tampa Bay Lightning seem to still have the most spring in their step. They are an exciting team to watch and with Tyler Johnson having his coming out party and Steven Stamkos heating up at the right time, the Lightning could be a lot of fun in the Final…if they can get past the Rangers.
The Anaheim Ducks seem to have the most depth. We all knew about Getzlaf and Perry, and we certainly know about the depth that Ryan Kesler provides, but they also have veterans like Francois Beauchemin who can provide that experience on the back end as well.
The Chicago Blackhawks are the team with the most experience and are hard to bet against. As much as you can look at the skill set of Duncan Keith, Marian Hossa and the incomparable Patrick Kane, is there not a more clutch player left in the playoffs than Captain Jonathon Toews. If my life depended on a hockey game, Toews would be my captain…my ride or die.
But then the Rangers have something that all teams covet…the clutch goalie. Henrik Lundqvist is not just the King by name, his is the King by reputation. His record in must win games is virtually flawless and the Rangers get him, in goal, at Madison Square Garden in Game Seven.
When all you may need is one goal to win, do you not want the best goalie?
However this shakes out over the next few days, one thing is certain, the Stanley Cup Final will be hard pressed to top the drama of the Conference Series. The best part is, two of these great teams that are left will get the shot to do just that.
It is simply too close to call who will be there.
