Vancouver’s mayor is calling for the Canadian Coast Guard to talk to the man who first reported the fuel spill in English Bay, as part of its review into its response to the incident.
Rob O’Dea says he’d been sailing with a friend that night in April when he spotted the slick from the grain vessel, the Marathassa, and called 911.
Gregor Robertson says it’s important the Coast Guard bring all players to the table.
“I think there is a need for more voices to weigh in with respect to the Coast Guard and improving their service, that’s going to be key for this review. I am hopeful they’ll reconsider that.”
O’Dea says he waited three hours before the Coast Guard showed up at the spill site.
