The Minister of Fisheries and Oceans says she shares the same frustrations many people had during last month’s oil spill in English Bay.
Gail Shea says she’s heard the disappointment from people – particularly those in Vancouver.
In light of the review of the Coast Guard and its actions during the spill, Shea made a promise during a funding announcement earlier today.
“We all share the view with the primary objective: to collectively be more prepared for the future. My commitment to British Columbians today is clear: this will be a thorough review and it will be presented to Canadians by the end of July.”
The announcement pledged 57 million dollars towards marine research facilities and protection.
Three marine research facilities in BC will receive about 18 million of that pledged money.
