A 40-year-old North Vancouver man says he’s only got a small window to become a Registered Massage Therapist before he goes fully blind, and he needs the public’s help in getting him back up on his feet before it’s too late.
Patrick Renny has Choroideremia, a hereditary eye disease for men that causes retinal degeneration and inevitably results in blindness.
“At 13 they officially diagnosed me with the condition.”
“The ability to be able to read a sentence now starting to become difficult and it’s something I didn’t think I was going to have a problem with until becoming really old.”
Renny says, being unemployed has left him with no way to pay the school fees to become a Registered Massage Therapist, be able to read the material and learn the techniques, all before going fully blind.
“There are quite a few visually impaired massage therapists. You rely on your hands and feel and your senses other than vision.”
10% of the proceeds will be going to The Foundation Fighting Blindness.
