Residents of one of Surrey’s most troubled neighbourhoods say they need more details about the 100 RCMP officers promised by the federal government Tuesday.
“When they’re going to be allocated, how many. We have yet to have any contact with the RCMP in regards to change in the community.”
Doug Elford with the Newton Community Association is expecting an update from local Mounties soon.
“They are meeting with the community right now with a bunch of forums, so we’re making an attempt to have our people at these forums. We’re going to be meeting with our local district commander soon. We’ll have a better understanding of how things are going to shake out.”
Newton is where 53-year old hockey mom Julie Paskall was attacked in December of 2013 and died later in hospital.
Her accused killer, Josef Gopaul, was recently ordered to stand trial on a charge of second degree murder.
His next court appearance is May 28th.
