A man is in hospital after he was shot by police in Burnaby early this morning.
The Independent Investigations Office has been called in.
IIO spokesperson Kellie Kilpatrick says it happened shortly before 2 a.m. in the 500 block of Clare Avenue.
“According to the information that we have, the RCMP were responding to a complaint of an unwanted person at a residence. They encountered the male and he was reportedly non-compliant with their directions and was subsequently shot.”
RCMP say they’d learned the man may have had a knife. A knife was recovered at the scene after the shooting.
The BC Ambulance Service says one person was rushed to hospital from that location in critical condition, while police say the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Kilpatrick could not say at the time whether the man had been to the home before, or whether he and the people who lived there knew each other.
