A drug distribution network described as ‘transnational’ has been busted, resulting in the seizure of thirty-seven kilograms of heroin.
RCMP Inspector Cal Chrustie says drugs from Afghanistan were transported by plane through South Africa and Belgium, before ending up in Canada.
“Well I think historically over the last decade or two the organized crime networks through communication, travel, globalization and that, have expanded so that the networks are not as we’ve traditionally seen them in terms of regional networks. But they’ve expanded that… many components of their operation are currently cross-borders in different cells of the operation are different parts of the world and in other countries.”
This investigation started in June of 2013.
One of the 28 people arrested is Canadian.
