A Penticton woman is facing a charge of public mischief, after allegedly lying about her home being broken into right before Christmas…and all of her family’s presents stolen.
45-year-old Jackie Ann Hooper made the call days before Christmas, reporting a break-in to Mounties.
“She said she had lost a big screen TV, several PlayStations, a PlayStation 3, a PlayStation 4, some laptops, gift cards, and some unwrapped presents from under the tree.”
Sgt. Rick Dellebuur says the story ended up in the media.
“There was an outpouring of support and generosity that’s associated, especially at Christmas time.”
But things didn’t add up…and now, Hooper’s being charged.
Dellebuur says he hopes this one story doesn’t dissuade people from being generous…because these types of cases are rare.
