The lawyer for an officer who previously faced charges of perjury says his client is relieved.
Glen Orris, the lawyer for RCMP officer Gerry Rundel, says the Judge was very clear in acquitting his client of perjury charges.
Rundel was one of four officers who faced charges of lying during a public inquiry into the death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski.
“Madame Justice Gropper decided and stated quite emphatically that the Crown just simply had not proved it’s case. She stated on a number of occasions that Mr. Rundel was being an honest witness.”
Orris says Rundel can now move forward.
“I assume and I’m sure that he will get on with his job which he has been doing even though he was initially charged.”
Crown says it’s too soon to tell if they will appeal the decision.
