Federal Health Minister Rona Ambrose is not saying yet if her government is prepared to take legal action if Vancouver officials start regulating marijuana dispensaries.
Speaking at an unrelated event in Surrey, Ambrose was repeatedly asked about the sale of pot being “legitimized” in Vancouver.
“My letter to the mayor of Vancouver yesterday is really to appeal to him and to the council to rethink this idea and to ask them to actually take action to close down these dispensaries.”
Ambrose says research has shown the use of pot is harmful to mental health and her main concern is protecting children.
The city is set to vote next week on the regulations, including keep the pot shops 300 metres away from schools.
