A fire that torched a large area of the Squamish terminal continues to burn.
Squamish mayor Patricia Heintzman says the fire is smoldering underneath the docks that caught on fire last night.
Heintzman says the community does not have a fire boat of its own so City of Vancouver vessels were a big help in getting the blaze under control.
She says with development plans on the waterfront:
“So once that critical mass of assets gets down there it is something we definitely need to consider. For a town of our size it is a bit of an expensive endeavour. We have to evaluate it with budgets. As we grow and multiply along the waterfront it is definitely something we have to consider.”
She says the terminal is shut down and will remain that way until it is determined to be safe. An Air Quality advisory has been issued especially for those with existing health conditions for the next day or two.
