Vancouver has a new police chief.
Deputy chief and 28-year veteran Adam Palmer will replace outgoing Chief Constable Jim Chu.
A Vancouverite, born and raised, Palmer studied business at SFU and worked as a corrections officer before joining the VPD.
He spent 13 years working patrol in East Vancouver.
As an inspector, he was in charge of a district that included the Downtown Eastside.
The VPD says his date to take over will be announced shortly.
