Nearly two years after an in-mate committed suicide at a BC prison, we’re learning more about how his death may have been prevented.
Jesse Lahn was serving time for kidnapping and armed robbery when he hanged himself in May of 2013.
The 33-year old was only a few months shy of completing his sentence at Agassiz’s Kent Institution.
A three-day inquest in Burnaby has wrapped up with the coroner’s jury making four non-binding recommendations to Correctional Services Canada.
They include more frequent checks on prisoners, better designing cells to prevent hangings, improving mental health support and increased video surveillance.
