Assistant commissioner for the Canadian Coast Guard Roger Girouard admitted this morning there were some communications breakdowns, notably that Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson wasn’t notified of last week’s English Bay oil spill as quickly as he should have been.
His earlier comments acknowledged word didn’t travel fast enough.
“There is no doubt in my mind that the pulse of communications did not at the end of the day reach some interested parties, and in particular the Mayor of Vancouver. I understand his frustrations [and] share it.”
However, in speaking with Drex on The Sean Leslie Show, Commissioner Jody Thomas expressed her contrasting opinion.
Drex: “With this communication breakdown, do you see anybody losing their job over this?”
Thomas: “I haven’t said there was a communication breakdown, and no.”
Drex: “Well Roger Girouard said this morning there was a communications breakdown.”
Thomas: “What I said is we’re going to review what occurred.”
