Tonight’s tilt between the Kings and the Canucks is the most anticipated home game of the season, or at least since the Cup Kings of Hollywood were here in lotus land on March 12th.
Many including myself were caught up in the hype and thought it would be possibly the contest of the season. By the time the Silver and black were finished, the Raj smelled like the Delta dump because the Kings showed up and the Nux did not. 4-zip crowned ones.
Nine days later the Orca Whalers played one of their top 60 minutes of the season with a pair of empty netters in a physical affair in La la Land 4-1.
This evening’s game of note is monumental compared to those two games.
It’s the final week of the season and playoff berths are on the line.
The Kings have made it clear the spot they covet in the standings is where the ‘Nucks reside. They want to be second in the Pacific with home ice advantage in the opening round.
Darryl Sutter’s crew could be there by 9:30 tomorrow night with a victory here and another in Edmonton tomorrow.
We expect to see a combative Kings crew in full playoff mode and it could get nasty.
The Canucks do not need to play desperate hockey. Fans need to see Willie Desjardins squad play determined hockey.
They have plenty to play for. A win in 60 minutes and a Winnipeg loss in regulation at Minnesota will ensure a playoff berth for Van City.
Let’s face it; the NHL Playoffs have started a week early.
