Quietly posted on the government’s website, the report by expert Henry Renteria indicates BC remains apathetic about the risk of the Big One.
He calls for a large scale public awareness campaign, better coordination and planning between all governments and more money, power and staff for Emergency Management BC.
NDP public safety critic Kathy Corrigan says the government is trying to hide the bad news.
“It’s shameful that this hasn’t been a higher priority, I think that the government has been playing roulette with the safety of the people of British Columbia.”
A government-issued release suggests a new plan will be made public this year.
