School districts won’t decide on first day of class until Aug. 29

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

School districts are telling parents they won’t decide on the start of school this fall likely until the end of next week.

Unless the teachers and employer reach a deal beforehand, a letter to parents in Vancouver says it won’t make a decision on whether to hold classes until Friday, August 29th to allow both parties as much as time as possible to get a new contract.

The letter says if there is no settlement, teachers may pick up the picket lines again, a partial lockout imposed last June could continue.
