China Nose wildfire forces further evacuations

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

The evacuation order north of Houston, B.C. has been expanded because of the China Nose wildfire.

About 60 people have now been told to leave their homes right away and head to two reception centres if needed.

Bill Miller with the Bulkley-Nechako Regional District says he hopes the coming weather will help tame the fire, which has forced the closure of Highway 16.

“Wildfire management is hoping that after this cold front goes through that the highway will be opened up fairly quickly as long as the fire doesn’t get too carried away.”

The lightning-caused blaze is about 4,000 hectares in size.

  1. I believe this mountain was named by railway workers putting thru’ what was then called the grand trunk pacific railway. There were numerous Chinese workers some of them lost their lives building this railway.
