More human-caused wildfires in BC

Hot and dry conditions continue to turn much of the province’s southern interior into a tinder box.

41 news fires – 32 of which were caused by dry lightning – have sparked over the last 24 hours.

Wildfire Management Branch officer Navi Saini says more alarming is the six which were human caused.

“Every human caused wildfire is one wildfire too many and regardless of cause, it’s really important that we be extra diligent when in the back country and with our activities when conditions are as hot and dry as they are.”

Campfire bans remain in place through many regions of the province, and with more dry lightning in the forecast, the Wildfire Management Branch is preaching continued diligence from nearby campers.
