It was another peaceful Celebration of Lights last night.
Roughly 250,000 people jammed into English Bay in Vancouver as France took the barge.
“It was colourful”
“I know what I hated the most about the show, all the smoke”
“I think its way better than the last one from last year.”
While the smoke filled skies disrupted some people’s experiences, most were awe struck as France lit up the sky with a majestic array of colours.
On the policing end, other than afew arrests for public intoxication and breaching the peace, no major issues.
Constable Brian Montague says they target Davie and Denman to disperse crowds.
‘That’s where we use to have problems many years ago. So we blocked off the area, we don’t allow people to congregate. We bring our horses in, and we disperse the crowds very quickly.”
Montague also says police have changed their crowd control approach.
“I think the crowd has gotten better as well. They understand that they shouldn’t be bringing alcohol down here, and if you’re going to come down and cause problems, the police are going to deal with you pretty quickly.”
Japan takes the stage on Saturday.
