The city of Vancouver announced that Friday will be Geroy Simon day in the city. Deputy Mayor Kerry Jang presented the proclamation at City Hall on Monday morning.
Simon played for a dozen years in a BC Lions uniform and won a couple of Grey Cup championships with the Leos.
“Superman” will be inducted into the Lions Ring of Honour on Friday at halftime of the BC contest versus Winnipeg. Simon spent the first two years in the league with the Blue bombers.
Fans leaving the game will receive a commemorative poster. 200 signed Simon jerseys will be on sale as well as large beverage cups will honour the CFL’s all time leading receiver.
He caught 1,029 balls for 16,352 receiving yards in 15 seasons. Both marks are CFL records.
Simon wrapped up his career as a winner. He hauled in a pair of touchdowns in the Grey Cup final for the hometown Saskatchewan Roughriders last November versus Hamilton.
He now works as an ambassador for the “only” Riders.
