Botanie Creek fire triples in size

A wildfire burning near Lytton has tripled in size in less than 12 hours.

About 120 people have been evacuated due to the Botanie Creek fire.

Fire Information officer Dave Steeves says they have their hands full with this one.

“It is estimated at approximately 1500 hectares in size and at the moment we are looking at about zero-percent containment. We have approximately 21 firefighters on the scene and there is lots of smoke and poor visibility, which makes it difficult for our aircraft that is involved.”

Steeves says the Kamloops Fire Centre has not seen any new fires today, something he called good news.
