A specialized fire fighting team is now on the ground southeast of Tumbler Ridge to try and tame a wildfire burning since the weekend.
Now 3,500 hectares, the fire grew again overnight to double what it was two days ago.
The blaze has forced a nearby camp with 200 oil and gas workers to evacuate, but fire information officer Jillian Kelsh says crews are so far keeping the flames at bay.
“There’s also well heads and things in the area, but they are actually quite resilient to fire, especially when we are working with the oil and gas. They can close them off, shut down the well heads for a period of time when the fire goes over.”
Kelsh says water bombers are being used help crews on the ground.
