I’m not so sure the Calgary Flames are the right model to follow but the Canucks seem to think so, at least in one way.
The Canucks have hired Flames Assistant General Manager of Player Personnel John Weisbrod and added him to their Hockey Operations staff as as Vice President of Player Personnel.
Weisbrod spent 3 years with the Flames. Prior to that he was the Director of Professional and Collegiate Scouting for the Boston Bruins from 2006 to 2011 and served as a Pro Scout for the Dallas Stars during the 2005-06 season.
He and Canucks GM Jim Benning have a history together in Boston and apparently Benning liked what he saw.
Weisbrod played for Harvard for 4 years in the late ’80s and won a NCAA Championship in 1989. He was a Minnesota North Star draft pick in 1987 and joined the San Jose Sharks in 1991 but never played an NHL game.
Weisbrod joins the Canucks Hockey Operations team of Trevor Linden, Jim Benning, Stan Smyl, Laurence Gilman, Lorne Henning, T.C. Carling, Eric Crawford, Jonathan Wall and Mike Brown.
