If you saw people running around Vancouver on Saturday afternoon, it’s perfectly normal.
The B.C. Cancer Foundation hosted the 9th annual Underwear Affair and hundreds were expected to take part in the timed 10km race and 5km walk in their underwear and other creative costumes.
Spokesperson for the foundation Erik Dierks says the idea of making the event underwear themed is because it raises funds for cancers below the waist.
“We have truly shifted the paradigm for ovarian cancer prevention over these 9 years and in great part thanks to the 4.8 million dollars that we have raised over these past 8 years.”
Added Dirks: “Over 37 percent of cancers that will be diagnosed this year are cancers below the waste and they’re cancers that we often don’t talk about and are frequently a little bit embarrassing to have that conversation about.”
He says 4.8 million dollars have been raised through the event over the past 8 years.
