Thousands of cyclists in communities across the province set off in the third annual Canadian Mental Health Association’s Ride Don’t Hide Sunday.
About 1,500 came out for Vancouver’s 10 and 20 kilometre rides.
“We’re trying to raise awareness about mental health and mental illness and to confront the stigma and discrimination that’s often attached to mental illness and to raise funds for the work of the association across the province.”
CEO of BC’s division of the association, Bev Gutray says provincial funds will go towards mental health programs for women like “Enjoy Your Baby” which helps new mothers cope with the stress and anxiety associated with childbirth.
She says 416 thousand dollars was raised across the province and about half of that was raised in Vancouver.
