A group of Vancouver musicians facing discipline from the North American body of their union have been granted a reprieve by the courts.
The American Federation of Musicians wants to fine former members of the Vancouver Musicians Association local 145 up to 50-thousand dollars for breaching union bylaws.
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra bassist David Brown says a BC Supreme Court judge granted an injunction.
“I think these are very punitive, and kind of vindictive charges, and so by putting them aside, atleast it lets us breathe out, while we await a decision in the courts.”
The AFM says the players signed an agreement to get Vancouver musicians more work in the BC film industry, against the rules of the international body.
A final decision on the case will be made in the coming months.
