A battle is underway in BC’s music industry with the local musicians union going up against the North American parent body in court.
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra bassist, David Brown, was president of the Vancouver Muscians’ Association (VMA) until the national body ousted the board last year and put in a trustee.
At issue: a VMA contract for music work in the film industry that the parent organization says is offside.
“…at the end of the day our main objective is to create work for our members here in Vancouver. We have a $1.5 million film production going on annually here in BC and our members are getting nothing.”
The parent organization also charging nine VMA board members and one staff with a possible 50-thousand dollar fine each.
