Police are asking for the public’s help to identify an attacker, following an assault on a woman early this morning in Stanley Park.
Around 8:30 a.m., a woman was jogging near Lost Lagoon when she was grabbed from behind, knocked to the ground, and groped. The woman fought off her attacker and he ran off.
Sgt. Randy Fincham calls the assault “rare” and “alarming.”
“Around 830 this morning, a woman jogger near lost Lagoon was grabbed from behind, knocked to the ground and groped. Police responded to the area and conducted a thorough search of the park, along with assistance from Park Board staff and other work crews working in the park, but unfortunately we were not able to locate a suspect.”
The suspect is described as Aboriginal, late 30s to early 40s, 6’ tall, 190 lbs., wearing a dark baseball cap, a dark jacket and dark pants that were covered in mud.
The woman suffered significant emotional distress, but was not physically injured in the attack.
