Sochi floods as Olympics approach

Vancouver, BC, Canada / (CKNW AM) AM980

50 Billion dollars is a lot of money to spend on anything…Russia has spent that amount on the upcoming Olympics.  The only problem is, Mother Nature doesn’t cash the cheques…Sochi is flooding.

Torrential rains have swept into the Winter Olympic host city and many of the Olympic venues are being pumped out from flooding.  There has been so much rain that the local river’s banks have breached, forcing the city to declare a state of emergency.

Russian authorities are determining what damage has been done to the city and the venue sites as well as what work would have to occur to get the facilities back to Olympic standards.

The Olympics begin in Sochi in mid-February.
