WINNIPEG – A 28-year-old man is sitting behind bars following an armed robbery in the Polo Park area on Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn’t easy for police to get him in custody.
Officers were called to a clothing store on St. James St. near Portage Ave. at around 1:30 p.m.
The suspect fled on a bicycle and was tracked down at the corner of Empress St. and Wellington Ave. He was armed with a knife and officers used their stun guns, but their attempts couldn’t bring the man down.
The suspect then tried to carjack a driver, but was unsuccessful, according to a police spokesperson.
The man was confronted again nearby and once again police deployed their stun gun.
Police say officers used their taser at least four times, and the man was resisting arrest, but he finally taken into custody.
Officers recovered the knife, along with a .22 calibre rifle.
