DAN RUSSELL BIO

The CKNW sports guru, Dan Russell is so universally accepted as the name you turn to when you need to talk sports, he might as well have his own collectible card. Spending his rookie year at CJOR, Dan honed his interview and reporting skills awaiting his move to the majors in 1989 when he was drafted by CKNW.

The host of the nationally regarded SportsTalk, Dan’s list of interviewees includes world class athletes, living legends and the brass behind the scenes. But there’s a reason people can’t wait to sit down and go for a round with Dan, and he sums it up in the words of a fellow radio player. “Larry King once said, that the secret to a good interview is to get the guest to talk about himself- or herself- and put oneself in the background”.

Since first strapping on the skates at CKNW, Dan has let thousands talk about themselves, but ones who stuck out for Dan were boyhood hero Bobby Orr, and the never-missed Wednesday night features with Brian Burke.
Whether covering the Canucks on their run for Stanley’s hardware, or being the voice of a double overtime championship game seven for the Giants, Dan's dedication to covering sports and getting the story behind the game is what keeps people tuning in every night at 9. A team member worthy of praise, and his own card... Dan Russell, team: CKNW. Position: SportsTalk. Shoots: Left. Next Game: Tomorrow night at 9 only on CKNW.
