A prominent voice in Vancouver sports, Dave Pratt is known as the guy on the other side of the argument. Born in Calgary, but don’t hold that against him, Dave studied out West and started his radio career in Port Alberni in 1974. Dave has woven quite a path through some of Vancouver’s most noted radio stations and it was his 1985 move to TSN’s Last Call that made him a name in sports, and his tenure with Team 1040 continued it. Now Dave Pratt takes his stand on CKNW. On the air with virtually no filter, if Dave has an opinion about sports at home or abroad, you’re going to hear about it. Dave Pratt, one of a kind, and only here on CKNW.

David Pratt - Wednesday May 22 - Hour 1

7:05 – 7:10
OPEN / THE RANT / SPORTSACTION

THE RANT: After seven seasons building up a reputation as the best coach in Vancouver Canucks history, Alain Vigneault was officially dismissed today by general manager Mike Gillis. Who replaces the man who set a franchise record for most wins by a head coach? Dave speculates on the answer, but knows one thing: This is a crucial stage for the Canucks organization.

SportsAction: Pick two teams. They win, you win. The home team has won every game of the Kings – Sharks series. Should we be led to believe that trend will stop tomorrow in Los Angeles? And the Rangers are on the ropes; look for the Bruins to put them out of their misery.

VIGNEAULT FALLOUT; WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

To discuss the implications that come with firing Alain Vigneault, Dave talks to our Sportsnet Insider John Shannon who weighs in on what happens next and who the Canucks could look to hire to replace him. We’ll also get into whether or not Mike Gillis used his “get out of jail free card” by firing Vigneault.

“YOU’RE FIRED”, OPEN LINE

We’ll start the show with audio from the Mike Gillis press conference this afternoon. How did the Canucks come to making this decision? What’s the process for hiring a new coach? Was Vigneault simply a scapegoat for what should be deemed Gillis’ failure? We’ll hear what Gillis has to say. And the Poll Question tonight is “Who deserved to be fired: Alain Vigneault and the coaching staff, or general manager Mike Gillis”. We’ll take calls, tweets, and e-mails with listeners’ thoughts.

David Pratt - Tuesday May 21 - Hour 1

7:05 – 7:10
OPEN / THE RANT / SPORTSACTION

THE RANT: When it comes to an NHL team’s survival in the playoffs, it boils down to good coaching. Some teams have great coaches, and others aren’t as lucky. As Dave says, the NHL should announce the coach of the year nominees after the postseason as opposed to before, because only in the playoffs do you see the real exceptional coaches rise to the occasion.

SportsAction: Pick two teams. They win, you win. The Senators picked up their first win of the series against the Penguins over the weekend, but Dave isn’t counting on them to take tomorrow’s affair. In the NBA, the Heat boast the best home record, while the Pacers were two games under .500 on the road. Take Miami for the easy win.

The Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins meet for Game 4 tomorrow in a series which got interesting after Ottawa’s double overtime win on Sunday. To preview the all-important fourth game, Dave talks to hockey trivia master and Ottawa native Liam McGuire.
