Federal Finance Minister off to Asia

After addressing the Vancouver Board of Trade the day after unveiling the latest budget, Canada's Finance Minister is headed to Asia.

Jim Flaherty says the reason for trip is obvious.

"Because the emerging economies are where the growth is in the world economy. European economies for the most part are in a recession. The american economy is struggling. Our economy is growing, modestly but the emerging economies continue to grow significantly. The other reason is that Hong Kong is a financial hub for the world."

Flaherty says the week long junket is important in terms of building on Canada's economic reputation.

He says besides time in Hong Kong he will also be visiting the emerging economy of Thailand.

Suck up to Thailand because your budget just made China start paying a little more for their slave labour.

@Vancouver Sucks I agree. These trips should be China coming to suck up to us and explain why we should be buying there crap, while we send quality raw timber and coal their way.

I hate the fact that we buy so much stuff from China - and it is crap as said by Vancouver Sucks

It is almost impossible to find anything made in Canada

I am old enough to know that clothing made in Canada - Vancouver, Winnipeg and Montreal as examples were very well made. Now when you buy something from the 'same company' it was made in China. You are lucky if the buttons stay on for a week, not to mention the hems on the skirts

    sad really....
