Restaurant group celebrating return to PST

While the debate over the benefits of keeping the hst continues, one of it's biggest enemies is wasting no time wishing the tax a not-so-fond farewell.

The BC Restaurant and Food Services Assocation is even buying advertising reminding customers the hst will soon be history.

"The average families will save about $190 annually on restaurant meals."

Association President Ian Tostenson says the switch back to the PST also translates into more much-needed business.

"We expect that the industry will probably see maybe a four or five per cent lift in an industry right now that's somewhat flat.'"

As for any concerns about restaurant owners waiting until the last minute to register for the pst, he says that's expected considering how busy most of them are.

And so they should celebrate. They will be able to put their prices up by 5% and the public wont even notice.
Come on.... Say they wont raise the prices.
lets see. buy that quarter punder at 23:55 and another one at 24:05 see if the price changes.

There shouldn't be any tax on food, period.

Seniors who rely on prepared deli food. And all of us who like to go out for a meal should not have to pay tax on what we eat. Who cares who prepares it, food is food.

Most restaurants have already printed new menus, so no savings for us with the HST being gone!

@FrankM_7944 No one "relies" on prepared deli food.

Menus were not printed with new prices since tax is added to the bill and is calculated by the point of sale machines.

They printed the menus before the hst went bye so they could get the tax credit back. just like there buying more pots and pans, chairs and tables to get the hst back. we will not see one cent in reductions except for a few large chains

This could reverse itself again under a Adrian Dix NDP government. The NDP government in Manitoba added PST to all purchases in restaurants and pubs. The Manitoba NDP keep adding items to PST all the time. Adrian Dix will mostly do the same.

@joes_2868 joe you say that like its a bad thing for the NDP to do.
but under the liberals all ALL ITEMS already went up 5 %
