Vancouver is one step closer to its goal of being known as the world's greenest city.
It has been named the first ever Global Earth Hour Capital by the World Wildlife Fund.
The award will be handed out during a conference today in Malmo, Sweden.
Vancouver beat out 65 other cities from six countries. The five other finalists included San Francisco; Forli, Italy; New Delhi, India; Oslo, Norway; and Uppsala, Sweden.
Vancouver has also been named people's choice after scoring the most votes online for its commitments to sustainability, fighting climate change and reducing carbon emissions.
The next worldwide Earth Hour event, in which people are encouraged not to use electricity, is slated for this Saturday, March 23, between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
