Axe-attacker granted release
VANCOUVER/CKNW (AM980)

3/18/2013

The young man who attacked a Surrey teen with a hatchet back in 2006 has been granted his statutory release.

Enrique Quintana was 17 years old when he attacked teenager Michael Levy at a dance hall in Surrey.

Levy's in a wheelchair for the rest of his life, following that unprovoked attack.

Quintana was convicted of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

After Levy was already on the ground and badly injured, quintana hit him two more times, sprayed him with bear spray and kicked him.

Should be locked up for life but I suppose they will do that once he kills someone. Sad.

This is the one who, after court, was videotaped giggling in the elevator with a couple of girls. Why does he get a second chance when Michael Levy doesn't?
Should have been tried as an adult and given 25 years with no possibility of parole.
Or sued for medical care costs for Michael so that 75% of what he earns for the rest of his life is taken from him.

@SlimP_9860 Where is your compassion ? He was only a child at the time and didn't know what he was doing !! I'm sure he has spent some quality time with the councillors in the detention center and has been rehabilitated to the ppint where any of us would feel perfectly safe leaving our pet or young child with him !!
That's about as much sarcasm as I can muster - as this story is to me the epitome of all that is wrong with our overly lenient society and court system .

We'll be reading about this kid again. Time for our courts to take off the rose-coloured glasses and start handing down some real sentences. If this kid commits another crime the judge that freed him should be held accountable.
