With only two weeks left until B.C. transitions back to the provincial sales tax, there's a big push underway to encourage businesses not to leave registration to the last minute.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business is coordinating a campaign called “PST Tuesday.”

Twitter users will be invited to get on board by hashtagging tweets with “PST” and “smallbiz.”

Spokesman Mike Klassen says the delay in registering may be because of the the cost involved.

“Our surveys show about $3,000 on average per business, just in terms of staff training, rekeying things like cash registers and updating software for accounting."

Half of the more than 100,000 businesses that need to register to collect the PST had done so.

I would be interested in understanding what the impact of the HST was for businesses such as restaurants. When the HST was introduced, the restaurant retailers association advised that business would be severely impacted and there would be lost jobs, tax revenue, closing businesses etc. So, effective April 1, will all these laid off workers be rehired to accommodate the extra business now that the PST / GST has been reintroduced?

Don't be in business if this is TOO MUCH work or accounting!

Sounds to me eliminating hte penny was more time and work for businesses...........

Any excuse to give it to the consumer
i am sick of them trying to make me feel sorry for them
Get out of business or just get to work!

In NDP Manitoba, PST is charged on all purchases in restaurants and pubs. NDP Manitoba says they don't need the HST because budget time each year they just keep adding more items to be taxed under the PST.

The same thing that will happen here in B.C., if Adrian Dix is given the taxpayers cheque book.
