BCTF experiences financial challenges

The BC Teachers Federation is experiencing some financial challenges after costly court action in recent times.

BCTF president Susan Lambert said a decade-long challenge of a liberal law introduced in 2002 which ended the right to negotiate class size and composition was particularly costly.

"That court challenge took us 10 years to win. Those kinds of actions do not come cheap."

The union spent $3.6-million on legal fees last year.

    Do we know what it cost the provincial treasury to lose said court case after the government knew it was illegal to begin with?

    How much money has been spent on advertising and the anti-Liberal / pro-NDP attack ads? If the member has declined as stated, what cost controls have the union placed within the administrative budgets to reduce operating costs? How much does the sponsorship of PR rallies cost the membership and only really achieve face time for union leadership and NDP hopefuls ! No sympathy from my perspective.

      @Reality Check Could you imagine the benefits to teachers and kids if the money spent on anti liberal programs where spent on mentoring programs for teachers that are having difficulty in the classroom or helping teachers that say they use their own money to provide school supplies?

      @Reality Check Who's asking for sympathy? A little head scratching perhaps over why a government would rather spend millions of PUBLIC tax dollars on what they should have known would be a losing court battle. So much for the great economic and financial handlers of the province.
