Activists for the Council of Canadian Delta/Richmond chapter say replacing the Massey Tunnel will not fix traffic congestion -- increasing transit capacity will.

The group is rallying outside a Ministry of Transportation open house in Delta today.

Eric Doherty with the council says by adding more buses through the tunnel -- bottle necks will not only lessen but carbon emissions would decrease.

"We have a climate crisis and we have to reduce emission. We really don't have a choice, places like Delta are going to be in severe danger of flooding in the future as the sea levels rise up to 5 meters."

Recently the province released five options for replacing or improving the tunnel.

All plans involve rebuilding or broadening the highway.

Yup...just add more buses. That's all they had to say?

Yep lets add more taxpayer and automobile driver funded busses so the great unwashed can ride for free. So adding more busses with get people out of their cars? I think not.
If you really want to tackle global warming why not leave the low hanging fruit alone and go after the real polluters namely the deep sea shipping industry and the airline industry which pretty much go unregulated world wide.
Leave that poor guy that has to drive to work daily as well as pay your way on the bus alone.

@UnemployedinBC they now call it climate change not global warming. I do not know why people still believe that all of this is caused 100% by people. The science is not perfect

The climate (not to be confused with weather) changes every 1500 years or so.

Just recently they found mummified camel bones in the high Arctic - and prior to that other artifacts from an age when that area was more tropical were also found

So it is true there are too many people on the planet using up the resources and companies polluting like madmen. Vehicles however have really addressed most of these issues....it is probably too late

I think a new crossing would reduce emissions more effectively. All cars idling along at high speed. Only problem is we'd have to get rid of those diesel spewing busses as they'd slow down efficient newer cars.

@WilliamS_3961 here here. Now someone is thinking. Remember the bus strike and how efficient things were with no busses choking up traffic. its time automobile drivers stood up and said NO MORE. if you want to ride the bus pay your own way, every last nickle of it. And while Im at it if you want to commute on a bicycle, I want to see a license plate on it and liability insurance.

Um, seems obvious to me that we need both.
Neither on their own would be a solution.

Again with man-made global warming - 'er climate change - 'er whatever.

As Obama the clown and his clones say, don't let a good crisis go to waste - 'er clowns or clones - sorry I get confused if he's the clone or the clown.

For all the "chicken littles" claiming that we are all going to drown and it's all because of the fact we are changing our atmosphere; pleeeze tell me how we got all of those SUV's on Mars. The Martian ice caps are shrinking just like those here on Earth. Gotta be due to the extraterrestrial SUV's - right.

Maybe all those individuals' that actually study our solar system and blame the changes on Solar conditions are right. No, instead we gotta take the word of a bunch of politicians and their clones. Sorry I get confused - is it clowns and not clones? Could it be both? When you get over 60 you're just not as sharp as you used to be; or as gullible.

I have an idea for the next Mars mission - Obama, Gore and all the "granolas" (that are pushing for the NWO and man-made, global warming) get together and launch themselves on a one-way excursion. You wouldn't be missed - well again there goes that confusion - maybe you would be missed. It would be quieter anyway.

Just a quick thought. Smaller main offices in the city. Satellite offices in the suburbs. With all the technologies we have now, why are so many people insulting the city every morning? Any trades can work from outside the city if they are working in an area. Let the couriers bring parts or other support out of the city in the morning. Why do so many of us not work against traffic?
