Border Services respond to raid allegations

The Canadian Border Services Agency says what is being reported as a series of raids of Metro Vancouver construction sites Wednesday -- detaining illegal migrant workers -- is not correct.

In a written statement the CBSA says agents only went to one worksite looking for a man with a long criminal history who had previously been deported and while doing so found a number of other foreign nationals working illegally.

As far as the reality tv crew that filmed the events -- the statement says the agency is taking part in a documentary series based around the CBSA which they see as a way to show the agency's committment to Canada's border security.

Thursday morning NDP  M-P Libby Davies said the organization has a lot to account for.

The CBSA took six hours to respond to CKNW's requests for information about what happened Wednesday.

Thursday afternoon families of some of the people detained yesterday held a rally -- calling the actions of the CBSA unfair although some admitted to not having the documentation to work legally.

The documentary series Border Security has shown operations like this before. In all parts of the show they are professional and doing the job we pay them to do. Criticism such as this, along with a total distortion of facts, is irresponsible both on the part of those hacks like Davis and her ilk, and the media who managed to sensationalize this story long before they had all the facts. Lets support our CBSA officers who are doing nothing more than they are supposed to do, enforcing the immigration laws our politicians have enacted in order to protect Candian workers from being diseplaced by illegals.

@DeryckN Well said. I wonder if she marches for Canadian citizens displaced by temporary foreign workers in every Tim Hortons too?

So what does CBSA have to account for? Doing their jobs? I guess maybe being an M-P makes Libby Davies think all government workers sit on their duffs and twiddle their thumbs 350 days a year. How dare those people put in a full day's work.

If you don't want to play by the rules, then you get to leave. Seems fair to me. How many people are not being allowed in the country because illegals are holding jobs they could otherwise get?

Didn't apply for immigration status, didn't have work visas nor apply for them, didn't pay any taxes, I'd assume.

Fine the employer and send the workers and their families back home. They can appeal from there.

What is Libby's issue ?? This illegal immigration , coupled with employers feining that they can't find someone to do the job in Canada is total nonsense. The reality is that employers DO NOT want to pay a living wage so they bring in people and pay them less. Good on CBSA for doing their jobs !

@AlexK Even if there aren't skilled workers to do the job in Canada, there are proper avenues to find them.
There are trade schools all over the country. There are government agencies that will help you find the workers you need.
I wonder how many of these undermanned employers are people that our skilled workers just won't work for.
The company is on the radar now, and needing employees.

Libby's actions do not surprise me.
As for the families holding a rally; why? Because they got caught and are hoping for public sympathy? Deport them...now!

@MikeD_5831 Maybe Brian Burke will drop by to drive them to the airport? But I heard last night that the detention centre is at the airport. Is that true?

Libby's vision for Vancouver is like many Leftist Run US Cities and states . . . that spend 10's of Billions giving welfare, food stamps, driver's licences and free education to folks that Broke the LAW and are Illegal Aliens . . .
Imagine the Damage a Tag Team of Libby, Gregor and the DIxter . . . could do to Vancouver, the Lower Mainland and the Province . . .

Golly ! I haven't heard a word from King Jimmy Sinclair. He must be out of town or hiding . He is usually out there supporting his NDP buds in calling out the Governments on one thing or another.
After all the bitching about the Temporary Workers this year, Libby should have her brain checked to see if she has one !!! If she wants to do something useful (which I doubt because it involves a lot of work ) she can help all these people obtain their proper documentation !! At least these people , illegal or not , want to work and provide for their families which is more than I can say for a lot of other legal "Citzens" of this Province.
    1. UnemployedinBC posted on 03/15/2013 02:26 PM
@ Brian WA Im a legal CITZEN of this province. Do I want to work? you bet i do. the problem facing us legal citzens of BC is that companies refuse to hire us to do a job because well.... we may have done something different that what they are hiring for for the last 20 years. so rather than a company investing (training) in a British Columbian they want the easy way out. hire a foreign national illegal or otherwise and pay them less than the legal wage in BC. So before you go spewing your filth about British Columbians know the facts.

The NDP whether Federal or Provincial just do not get it! In this case Dipper Libby Davie is so far off base such demonstrates a total lack of responsibility.

The NDP are just totally whacko.
