BC getting one million dollars from Japan to help with the clean up of tsunami debris on our coast.

The announcement comes just over two years after Japan was devastated by a strong earthquake and tsunami.

One and a half million tonnes of debris washed out to sea and some of it is beginnnig to come ashore here in BC.

Environment Minister Terry Lake thanks Japan for the one-time grant.

He says the money will be used to support coastal communities and first nations with debris planning, management, and of course the actual clean-up effort.

@taxed to death Yes they are certainly stepping up to the plate. They did not have to.
A big change in the last 68 years. They still need to apologize as a country for the 2nd wold war atrocities.

We should be giving that money back. It was not Japan's fault and is not their responsibility. They need the money for victims of the tsunami. We have no victims of the tsunami. Picking up garbage is not a job, it's a duty.
