TV/film industry spent more in BC last year

The TV and film industry spent 1.2 billion dollars in BC last year, a 27 million dollar increase over the previous year.

But Community, Sport and Cultural Development minister Bill Bennett says he shares the industry's concern about declining production this year, and he's not ruling out some kind of government help if things get worse.

"If the production numbers continue to decline the way they have the last couple of months I'd go to my colleagues and say look we may have to do something here and I don't know what that something is, but it's my job to alert my colleagues later in the year if I think the industry is being jeopardized in some serious way."

But Bennett adds there is no money in the 2013 budget to increase tax credits.

This is one time, I would like to see government match Ontario and Quebec. This industry brings a lot of wealth to this province. And we are only losing it because it's being stolen.

Didn't the film industry warn "flush the HST and we will be at a huge disadvantage in BC"? . . . .
Ontario and Quebec get Billions from the FEDS . . . . why you ask? Because they are "Have Not Provinces" . . .
All is not lost though . . . once the Dippers and the Dixster take over here in BC . . . it won't be long and we will be a "Have Not" Province TOO . . .

@Dale - left coast Then some of you will be happy! So why the spin before anything Happens. Typical of the Liberal/Cons that sail, to say the boat is sinking when in fact it is just politics at play right now! Do you think if the Liberals win they will reinstate the HST?If so why do they not tell us they will! You people are crying for them to keep the God- damned tax! Will they reintate this hated Tax or you dare the NDP too?Come on! In what way would you like your TAXES increased? Come on give me more of the crooked Liberal/Cons rhetoric, state some truth for a change will the Liberals bring back the HST if re-elected! Go NDP Go!

It looks like we don't have an industry in crisis after all. I'll tell you what. All you movie industry workers who are demanding tax breaks in order to keep production in the province, how about if you all take a big pay cut to keep your jobs? How about if you forgo triple and quadruple overtime whenever your production runs over time? There are many of us who you want to take tax dollars from who don't even get 80 hours on a paycheck. So maybe you folks should look at yourselves if your productions can't afford to operate in BC. Don't expect more corporate welfare from those of us who are in a lot weaker position than yourselves

@DavidSB You said it! Corporate welfare for the oil & gas Banks on and on! this is good for the Liberal/cons of the coalition, they get more money back in their STOCK ROYALTIES! they also neglect to talk about the bloody part time that workers have, they try to eke out out a living, only to have these jobs gone to foreign workers! wake up people! Go NDP Go
