Premier weighs in on NDP slush fund allegations

After saying she felt no need to offer another apology to people attending the inaugural BC-India Global Business Forum, in the wake of the ethnic vote scandal, Premier Christy Clark is urging New Democrats -- now facing accusations of creating an election slush fund -- to follow her lead.

"When people asked if there was an issue with mis-spending public money for partisan purposes on the government side of the house, I said, we're going to get to the bottom of it, we're going to fix it. That's leadership and I think the NDP should do exactly the same thing. They should look deeply into it. They should get to the bottom of it. They should take responsibility for it and they should fix it."

Clark says she hasn't seen the Auditor General's report indicating the NDP used constituency funds for political purposes.

The New Democrats insist no rules were broken, but they claim the fund has now been shut down.

It's all on the up and up. That's why they shut it down.

@Ron_26 Good point, why shut it down if its on the up and up?

Ron_26: Mere peanuts if Dix gets in and starts reporting to Jim SinClair.

Once again, it was a draft report. The actual report had none of this as there was nothing for the Auditor General to criticize. Terrible report omitting this very important fact. Please read :

@Stevev_1850 A "draft" usually means it may need fortmatting, typos or something not that the information is wrong. I still wonder why the NDP shut it down so fast.

We all know that the NDP doesn't do such things. That's why all the socialists are attacking the government with accusations, constantly.

The NDP isn't trying to win the election with substance, they are just hoping they can throw out dirt in hopes of not losing it.

Just proves that all political parties make mistakes, if I'm allowed being so general and inoffensive.

So I guess it comes back to what are the issues each of us cares about, and what candidate will do the best job for the future of the province in your eyes.

@RichardF_4221 Before you throw stones find out the facts first, then say something! Right wingers will do anything to stop those books from getting a close scrutiny,to see just where all the money went and to whom!! This is all from a paid liberal/Con hack, that didn't look at the full report of the article! Now come attack me saying the truth! Go NDP Go

@RichardF_4221 So, I take it that you prefer not to hear about Basi/Virk, BC Rail, and other scandals. These are serious allegations of wrong doing which you find offensive if brought into the public domain?

Actually I completely agree with Clark. Having said that it would be best suited to have Farnswoth or Horgan investigae Dix. Need I say more?

Friends helping friends right Christy....you and your good buddy Dyble or Gerald Gerrand! Yes Mr. Gerrand doing the investigation into the BC Rail scandal, you know the guy who contributed financially to the Lib's...

This news is a week old my god it was cleared up already by the AG

@taxed to death how come you did not suggest the Auditor General to investigate both the BC Liberals and NDP?

@bctaxpayer do you really how to debate bctaxpayer?
Just keep on calling names is a sign of lack of substance in your argument. If your debating skill is limited to throw insults, please keep it to yourself.

The union socialists cannot answer question except hurling insult to distract the issue. Gabriel Yiu and Jenny Kwan have to answer the question what she allegedly gave $2000 each month to Gabriel Yiu to do what? Bob Simpson stated Gabriel did not provide any advice even though he has stated He is an adviser to the NDP! So why did Jenny Kwan's Constituency office allegedly gave Gabriel $2000 each month? There should be an investigation by the Auditor General.

I wonder if Christy learned this in Distraction101 or Deflection101. Way to try and change the focus from your corrupt party to the opposition. I see many of you are eating this up. Fact is, the BC Liberals have still out corrupted the BC NDP, 100 to 1. It's sad to say, but a quarter of a million (or half a million, depending on the report) is still peanuts compared to the billions of dollars the BC Liberals have squandered/pilfered.
    1. Ron_26 posted on 03/12/2013 06:42 PM
@Borninapirateship Oh. I see. It's OK because it's not as bad as the other guy. You're dripping with integrity.

@Borninapirateship Distraction 101, that was the course taught by Glen Clark wasn't it?
Or was it Dix, and Clark taught Deflection.
      Can't quite remember.

Both major parties are quite adept at playing the shell game.

Let's get on with the important part.

Who's going to do what if they're elected, and how are they going to do it?

Issues on how the Province is going to be run should be more important than he said/she said. I don't like him, I'm not going to believe him, or I don't like her, I'm not going to believe her.

Doesn't matter how above the board and wonderfully honest you make your chosen party to be, If they don't have a realistic plan to run the Province, we won't be any better off going into the next election or for years later.

Crissy is only ticked that the liberals didn't think of this first. They would have ran with it as soon as they found it was illegal.

She said they are going to get to the bottom of the mess but didn't say a word on getting rid of any one found guilty. Every person who worked on that plan should quit. Crissy first.
